Odyssey of the Mind Deutschland e.V.
visual identity
Development of the visual language and a typeface for the association Odyssey of the Mind Deutschland e.V., or short: OotM.
It is a creative competition for kids, teaching them creative problem solving through theatre, arts and solving spontaneous tasks.
The main idea comes from the basic structure of the competition: every team gets the same problem and comes up with a different solution. So I developed a system based on a few geometrical shapes. By being combined differently, the whole visual language can be loud and bold, but also reduced and clear. The typeface and a graphic tool box were sent to every staff member and they are invited to play around with the whole system in the future.
I developed a typeface from the basic elements of the logo design. It is called Karl-Ernst as a nod to the founder of the german association of OotM. It uses various contextual alternatives and huge amount of glyphs.

I've been working for the association Odyssey of the Mind Deutschland e.V. for quite a while now. During the process of designing the visuals for every years' german competition, the playfulness and possibilities of the design come to show.
Based on the basic elements and accompanied by the mascot, OMER the racoon, every year a new visual language is developed.
