TRANSIT
at Localize 2022
performance and installation
For the Localize Festival 2022, we developed a performative space that visitors could experience and were invited to overcome subconciuous fears. Based on the psychologically deeply rooted warning colors red and white, an audiovisual tunnel was created that appeared repellent at first due to its appearance.
If the visitors were ready to approach this border, they entered this border space and crossed it. In the tunnel itself, they would find markings and shadows on the walls. If they dared to stay in the tunnel, the would see shadows creating the paintings on the walls.
It became clear that this was not a video installation, but real people moving around on the back. The visitors heard quiet voices, deep and sometimes disturbing sounds and sometimes they were spoken to by the shadows. Depending on their own discretion, visitors were able to interact with the artists and thus overcome the barrier between the visible and the invisible. At the end of the tunnel, another room awaited visitors with new impressions.
In 2022, Localize, the festival for city, culture and art, moved to a derelict industrial site at the foot of Potsdam's Telegrafenberg for a weekend. Artists and cultural workers were invited to develop site-specific works that dealt with the (im/)possibilities and practices of overcoming boundaries and asked questions about how current challenges can be met artistically.
